It is hard to believe that someone can opt for cattle farming as a profession after abandoning a flourishing career in fashion designing. But Shweta chased her inner feeling and passion for returning back to her village Ranipokhari, near Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

“My father always had the dream to establish a business in the village so that the youth could have enough employment opportunities in the village.”

Although her father failed to establish a business, Shweta always had the urge to fulfill her father’s dream. She had a keen interest in fashion designing and after graduating in science and doing a course on fashion designing from NIFT, she worked in the Fashion Industry for a few years in Noida and Delhi. During her designing work, she also got a selected for Miss Chandigarh. But after marriage, she went to Bangalore and started a boutique with the help of her husband.

Shweta was earning handsomely from her boutique, but she always wanted to go back to her village and fulfill her father’s dream. One day the idea of starting a cattle farm in her village came to her mind and she shared it with her husband.

“When I shared this idea with my husband, he liked it too and then we decided to return to the village.

”After coming back to the village they started a goat farm in Ranipokhari with the help of all their savings. She also took a loan from the bank to launch the business on a large scale. She founded a company named Prem Agro and built modern farming facilities using advanced technologies. A facility is established for goat rearing on the farm and is monitored 24/7 with the help of high-tech CCTV cameras.

Presently, there are more than 400 goats in Shweta’s farm. She has tied up with the dairy business too for a wider reach. Not only this, she has also taken steps to introduce chicken and cow farming. As of today, her annual profits stand in the range of Rs 3-4 lakh.

Today, Shweta is a successful farmer, but reaching this level was of course not easy. The decision to return back to her village after quitting a flourishing boutique in Bangalore was difficult for her. It was a fresh start for her and everything was so challenging. But she always believed in her ability and chased her dream. when she started farming in the village many people told her that her business may topple any day. However, she never lost her courage and continued to do her job.

Shweta also conducts training programs on cattle farming to prevent the migration of youth from the village. Through this program, anyone can get information about goat farming and other related business issues including dairy and poultry. In addition, she provides employment and opportunities in her own business. Shweta is also working to expand her business in other cities.
